Investigating Things To Seek Knowledge 

This work is based on Standards for Being a Good Student and Child, conveying the artist’s long-standing reverence for and reflections on traditional Chinese culture.

 

The red square grids have long served as the visual framework for learning to read and write in China. Filling characters into these boxes has become not only a writing habit, but also a deep-rooted mode of thinking.

 

At the exhibition, visitors must step across these grids laid out on the floor to get close enough to see the red lines on the piece. In the act of stepping in and out of the frames, the subtle influence of discipline quietly takes shape within the viewers’ bodies and minds.
