The Faceless

Masks are human-made shields hiding our true selves. Some live with two masks, others with countless ones we change for different situations. Worn for too long, masks fuse into our identity and can never be removed.Human lives take countless shapes, and so do Zhang Yanzi’s masks in a wide range of colors. She uses changing tones to show differences in personality, background, culture and belief. Under all the paint, every mask is lined with bloodstained gauze. This reveals the core truth of humanity: we are wounded, yet intensely alive.
